Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Charlevoix County Criminal History handles information connected with visits to this privately operated resource. It covers direct submissions, ordinary technical logs, cookies, analytics, advertising, and outside search tools. It also explains that the site does not keep a database of Charlevoix County or Michigan criminal records.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the terms and supplies its own results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our servers.

Messages and Contact Submissions

If you email us, the message may be retained so a response can be prepared. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Like most websites, the server can receive technical information when a page loads.

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring site, when available
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Visited pages and time spent on them
  • The IP address assigned to the device

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help summarize traffic, popular pages, and how visitors move through the site. Browser controls can reject cookies, though doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

Collected technical information and direct submissions support routine site operations.

  • Detecting and fixing errors
  • Routing a search to the selected partner
  • Measuring which pages visitors use
  • Operating and improving site performance
  • Displaying advertising that may be interest based

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. The site publishes general directions to Charlevoix County courts, the Sheriff and Jail, Michigan State Police ICHAT, MDOC OTIS, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report, and we are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure rules apply to information entered in those tools. We do not control those practices. Review the provider's policy before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Charlevoix County offices, Michigan agencies, courts, registries, and outside services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy governs the visit. Review that policy before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites for targeted advertising. That processing does not occur under our direct control.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information can be available to parties that perform necessary functions or receive it under legal process.

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that process a query submitted to them
  • Advertising networks that place or measure ads
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under valid legal authority

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable standard safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, so we cannot promise that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, it may be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights depend on the information and the entity holding it. Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs access to nonexempt public records held by Michigan public bodies. MCL 28.243 separately controls collection and dissemination of state criminal-history information. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to an applicable privacy law, a person may:

  • Request access to personal data kept about that person
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Request deletion when the law permits it
  • Opt out of certain processing where an applicable law provides that right

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised. A change takes effect when the updated version and its effective date appear here.
